I mean, that Windows 9X/NT already have a SVGA driver running. Furthermore, I think we will get in serious problems if two display drivers are competing for the graphic ressource. Only one driver can run, because only one driver can receive the interrupts from the graphic card. --------- Before we start writing or hacking display driver codes in CFree86, I would like to hear opinions from other users on how to handle this. Since WinDoze already is already using a video driver, I don't see the need to duplicate one, or try to run a second. Also, This allows us (hopefully) the ability to run on top of windoze, and to take advantage of a far greater set of video drivers/etc. > Before we start writing or hacking display driver codes in > CFree86, I would like to hear > opinions from other users on how to handle this. > > Thanks > Suhaib > > > > > From Ssiddiqi@InspirePharm.Com Wed May 26 11:57:00 1999 From: Ssiddiqi@InspirePharm.Com (Suhaib M. Hi Robert, Did you notice any other problems? Please note that we, including you, are trying to get Xfree work I should have included a brief note on my Cygwin installation. ???? ???? As I said everything builds (including all the cfb libraries) except the server itself. ???? Some where in the mid of compilation you will notice an error message "Error cannot build proxymgr".????This error is milseading. I cannot figure out from where that error is comming, becasue when I check /xc/prgrams/Xserver/proxymgr proxymgr.exe was there. ???? You may also see a similar misleading error message about Xpr but /xc/programs/Xserver/xpr compiles ok. ???? I think either cygwin.cf, cygwin.rules, cygwin. ???? One of the other problem is gcc -E near the end of compilation process. ???? gcc -E - -traditional -D__i386__ -DX_LOCALE -D_MT -DNO_TCP_H -D__CYGWIN32__ -D_P OSIX_C_SOURCE=199309L -D_BSD_SOURCE -D_SVID_SOURCE???????????? -I. -I../../../../../progr ams/Xserver/hw/xfree86/common -I../../../../../programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/os-su pport???????????????????? -I../../../../../programs/Xserver/include -I../../../../../exports/in clude/X11 -I../accel/s3???? BUSmemcpy.s | \ grep -v '^\#' > BUSmemcpy.i ???? Corrina suggested -t is sing -character after gcc -E causing the hang, because gcc waits for intput.???? That is not the case same command works elsewhere during compilation.???? It gives problem only with four *.s files near the end.???? Ernie's suggestions also did not help.???? I assume something is wrong with BUSmemcy.s, VgaBank.s and other *.s files in /accel/s3. ???? Neverthless those *.s files will not be needed becasue they are for S3 hardware acceleration for Linux. ???? I would appreciate your comments and help. ???? A few things you should note because I got literally yelled by some users. 1) Everything in XFree86 code compiles, except the Server itself. 2) config/cf/cygwin.cf on some systems (I would say most except mine) give a tones of *warning* not in ../.../... A few users complain that cygwin.cf was failing. Those are warnings only and GCC indeed finds the standard headers in H-i586-cygwin32/i586-cygwin32/include. 3) The precompiled libcrypt.a library must be installed in H-i586-cygwin32/i586-cygwin32/lib, otherwise proxymger, xdm and couple of more clients/libraries will fail to build. 4) During compilation you may notice two error messages about libproxymgr and proxymgr failed to build. Those error messages are misleading, at least on my system, the *.exe and *lib do compile and you can find a copy of the compiled binaries in the /xc/programs/Xserver/proxymgr. I have not yet traced the cause of those misleading messages. I am working with Marcus (author of GGI) to get XGGI code for XFree86 working. That will give at least an X-server for users. The goal is to write DirectX target for llibX11.a. Marcus, author GGI, also recommended that the best approach to have a good X-server is to write DirectX target for X11 libraries from XFree86. I am copying this message to cygwin-xfree list, becasue it may interest other users too. I hope you will not mind. Regards Suhaib ----- Original Message ----- From: John Fortin To: Suhaib M. I changed the cygwin.cf file to not compile fonts. 1) The first problem I encountered is when I do the 'make World'. There is not a makefile for it to find in th xc directory. There is an Imakefile and an xmakefile. I make a link ( ln -s xmakefile Makefile ) and things seemed to work. Did I miss a step somewhere? 2) When it tries to make ./config/util I get errors saying in can't find X11/Xos.h where the include path is passed as ../../exports/include. There is no X11 directory in exports/include. The files are in ./xc/include. When I simlinked this from the exports/include directory ( ln -s ../../include X11 ) it works.
