Ah, I see that xfree86-4.0-devel.tar.bz2 contains both
/usr/X11R6/lib/rgb.txt and /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/X11/rgb.txt.  The first
instance is being used, while the second instance may be redundant.

You should have rgb.txt file in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11, if not
then yes you are missing.  Missing RGB file explains why
you were getting wakey colors.
