Ok.  I've checked it is really 256MB.

If you are getting something besides this then you are either using
the wrong version of cygwin1.dll or you have the registry key set.

Possibly you (Kevin) have more than one version of cygwin on your
system.

Regardless, one fix is to set the lower value in the registry.

This has absolutely nothing to do with compiling things with older
versions of cygwin.  If you think about it, probably half of the
executables in the cygwin distribution were compiled under older
versions of cygwin.
