can't start X server

Hi, I sent this to you yesterday, but I think I've found the problem.
Sending you the solution in case it helps.

The reason for the message below appears to be because I originally set up
cygwin to use DOS-type text files. I suspect this causes tar to extract the
<font>.dir files with DOS-style line-endings which can't be read by xwin.
The problem went away when I re-installed cywin to use UNIX-style lines. I
got the information from an answer to an e-mail contained in the attached
URL (see below).

Cheers

Winston

Subject: can't start X server

Hi,

I recently downloaded XFree86 4.1 for Cygwin, and now can't start my
X-Server. The startxwin.bat just flashes up a couple of DOS windows and
disappears and, after editing the startxwin.sh script, I worked out that the

+ XWin -screen 0 1024x768x32

command produces the message

Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'

Can anybody give me some idea what the matter is?
