-fullscreen on 1280x1024

Hello,
I am running XF86 4.1.0 with DirectX 8.0 installed.  When I attempt to run with
-fullscreen -screen 0 1280x1024x3 , The Server will not start.  Full screen
mode will work in 1024x768, but the higher res does not work.  Has anyone seen
this?  I get the following error :

winAllocateFBShadowDDNL() - Could not set full screen display mode

Any ideas?
