Compiling Qt under cygwin

Hello,

First of all I would just like to excuse myself by saying that I don't
currently have cygwin installed. However, I am writing a Qt-based free
software application under Linux, that I would like to make available
under Windows/Cygwin/X.

On the web there are conflicting reports of success; the general
impression I get is that Qt1.4x tarballs will compile under Cygwin whereas
Qt2.x might not.

So can anyone clarify the situation?
