Fatal server error: could not open default font 'fixed'

I've trying cygwin/free86 for the first time so I'm a little unsure of how 
things work. Each time I try to start an X session (using startxwin.bat) I 
get this error:

Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/, removing 
from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/, removing 
from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/, removing 
from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID/, removing 
from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/, removing 
from list!
Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'

I've made sure that I chose 'UNIX' in cygwins installation so everything's 
in binary mode not text mode but the error stayed there. I really have no 
idea what to do, can anyone help?
