Backup X in linux

Hello:
I have an existing X installation in linux/redhat7.1, the installer 
Xinstall.sh told me. Before I install it, it is strongly recommended that I 
backup the existing installation before proceeding. Could you pl tell me how 
can I backup ??? I am very new in linux.
