[problems with xdmcp]

Maybe xdm can give us some information.

Do you have root access to the remote machine?

If so, kill kdm and start xdm -nodaemon -debug 10

This will start the xdmcp server and print out a lot of debug information.

Start the xserver with XWin -query <remotehost>

If you have no root access, you can copy the xdm config file
(/etc/X11/xdm-config) and change the pidFile, keyFile, authDir to some
writable files/dirs and requestPort to a value above 1024,

then start xdm -nodaemon -debug 10

The xserver must be started with XWin -query <remotehost> -port <requestPort>

bye
