Obtaining Hummingbird-like behavior

Hi,

I would like Xfree86 under cygwin to display an app without the X 
desktop taking over over my windows, a la Hummingbird. Using Hummingbird 
one can either run in a mode where the X desktop rules or where the X 
desktop is invisible (or somehow not required) and the only thing that 
shows up is the application gui.
