Problems with setxkbmap

Hi,

I have trying to get my UK keyboard to work with XFree 4.2.0 but I am having
a problem with the setxkbmap command.  Under version 4.1.0 the command
'setxkbmap gb' used to work but on 4.2.0 I get an error: 'Couldn't interpret
_XKB_RULES_NAMES properly' and a popup message saying:

Failed assertion
    fds_on_hold != null
at line 643 of file
/cygnus/netrel/src/cygwin-1.3.10-1/winsup/cygwin/dtable.cc

I am using Windows 2000.
