strace xkbcomp -xkm -m us /etc/X11/xkb/keymap/xfree86 >strace.log
and send me a snippet from the trace starting with 
open: open (/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XKeysymDB, 0x0)
and ending with 
fhandler_base::close: closing '/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XKeysymDB' handle 0x2A8
