Which version of XFree86 is installed?

cygcheck -c XFree86-bin
cygcheck -c XFree86-etc

The configfile is not required. Your keyboard layout is preconfigured in 
the xserver.

is /tmp mounted in textmode? 
is the layout correct after switching to binmode?
