HELP!

Dear sir or madam:

I am a bit scared about the way I start xfig.  I have my cygwin bash window 
open.  I type in startx and then a xterm window opens.  I would llke to 
start xfig so I type in xfig and it opens the program expect a statement 
appears in the xterm window saying "Warning: Actions not found: Start 
Scroll"

Oh by the way, I don't think I set up my environmental variables because I 
don't know how to?  Can you show me?
