startx hanging - startup problem located

uhh, don't you mean System(), Popen() and Pclose() ?  They're
contained within and entire "#if !defined(WIN32)" stanza and I'm not
sure what that means with respect to Cygwin.

Did something change in fork(), exec() or exit() between 1.5.12 and 1.5.13 ?
