startx won't start X, after fresh recent install.

startx won't start X, after fresh install of latest cygwin on fresh XP
laptop.

The output I get is exactly the same as reported on cybertechhelp by
someone else, a week ago (which has had no useful response in that forum):
http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128593

...but otherwise, it seems no-one else has the same exact problem (or at
least, google can't find it). Both of us have 1280x800 screens, for
whatever that's worth.

[Unrelated issue: the cygwin-x-faq contains a few links to this mailing
list here: http://x.cygwin.com/docs/faq/cygwin-xfree@cygwin.com
And that link doesn't work. Maybe that should be a 'mailto' URL?]

Key error message seems to be: Xlib: sequence lost (0x10000 > 0x44) in
reply type 0x0!

Any help would be appreciated.

Output is below:
=====================
$ startx
