Look in the X11 server log file for error messages after you experience a failed paste. I see something like that inside nedit. http://www.cygwin.com/ml/cygwin-xfree/2013-06/msg00000.html The crash problem in that post was resolved with a later version of the X11 server, but the paste and window degradation problems are still around. I hardly ever do a copy/paste from an X11 app to windows app or vice versa, so no idea if the nedit issue is related to what you are seeing. Also this X11 server is not running in the full cygwin environment, but rather in one edited down to just the minimum needed to run the X11 server. I distribute this version here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/minimalcygwinx/ I don't think this is a factor though, since all of the action is going on inside the X11 server process(es). It's not quite clear, but I think you are saying that it renders correctly when run locally on the Ubuntu 12.04 system? There are a couple of possible variables, which might affect things The version of the X server may not be the same. It would be useful to compare the same version, and also be helpful if you could test with the most recent X server (1.16.0) FWIW, the .svgs attached to that bug seem to render identically (although I'm not sure what correctly looks like) using a Cygwin Inkscape 0.48.4 r9939 (from cygwinports) and X server 1.16.0-1 > It also does not happen if > I run a native Windows version (not cygwin, not X11) of Inkscape on the > same PC which hosts that X11 server on the same test files. I guess that that format 242 is 'TARGETS' (The value of the atom will vary depending on circumstances. You could check with 'xlsatoms | grep 242'), in which case this means that something went wrong when asking the X client what conversion formats are supported for the selection, which is odd. I'll be upgrading to 1.16.0-2 today and will reboot and test. Like you mention, I assume its one of my *Windows* apps that is really the cause of the issue. For the Windows control panel -> devices -> keyboard, I see a "standard PS2 keyboard". I have the xkeyboard-config package installed. I am attaching the log of my troubles. Thanks in advance for your great help. I would appreciate any help you can give in tracking down the cause of this problem. I plan to add a bit more logging in the next release which should help identify the Windows application which own the clipboard when OpenClipboard() is failing. -- Jon TURNEY Volunteer Cygwin/X X Server maintainer -- Unsubscribe info: http://cygwin.com/ml/#unsubscribe-simple Problem reports: http://cygwin.com/problems.html Documentation: http://x.cygwin.com/docs/ FAQ: http://x.cygwin.com/docs/faq/ From jon.turney@dronecode.org.uk Fri Sep 26 15:00:00 2014 From: jon.turney@dronecode.org.uk (Jon TURNEY) Date: Fri, 26 Sep 2014 15:00:00 -0000 Subject: problems running Cygwin/x In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <54257F84.8060208@dronecode.org.uk> On 21/09/2014 17:56, t s wrote: > I successfully installed Cygwin/x on an NTFS drive > > unfortunately the menu items are limited to; > > one item for Cygwin (cygwin64 terminal) > five items for cygwinx (GNOME openbox, KDE openbox, openbox, xlaunch, xwin server) > if I try GNOME Openbox, or KDE Openbox, or Openbox; it appears to > start, but I cannot run xclock and there is no X server icon in the > lower right icon panel [...] > essentially I want to be sure Cygwin/x has installed > correctly; particularly the three Openbox options do not seem to do > anything; should they be bringing up some sort of GNOME or KDE > desktop? It seems that the open start menu links don't work correctly anymore. It seems that shortcut targets like 'C:\cygwin64\bin\run.exe /usr/bin/bash.exe -l -c "/usr/bin/startx /usr/bin/openbox-session"' need the new --quote option in run-1.3.3 to work correctly. You should check that xkeyboard-config and xkbcomp are installed correctly, that xkbcomp can be run, and that you don't have any software which is known to interfere with cygwin installed, as described at [1]. You might also check if the TEMP or TMP environment variables are set, and if so, contain the unix-style pathname of a directory which both exists and is writeable. If that doesn't help, perhaps could you try the snapshot [2], which is built with additional debug logging enabled.
