Trying to RTFNA, but need more spoon-feeding

I am trying to figure out how to use Hummingbird Exceed, Cygnus 1.0 and
the xfree port. Does anyone have any experience doing this or a simple
(really cookbook, mindless) list of steps to take? RTFM pointer more
than welcome.
