unable to change us keyboard in french keyboard

The french layout is normally detected automaticly. Can you please send me
/tmp/Xwin.log? It contains information about the server startup.

And can you also please run the program from
http://www.tu-chemnitz.de/~goal/xfree/keyboard.tar.gz and send me the output?
With this information I can add the keyboard type to the list of automaticly
detected (If your layout differs from the standard french one).
