How can get Windows fonts to appear in Oracle Developer with Cygwin/X?

I found my own solution. Here's what I did:
mkdir c:\cygwin\usr\X11R6\lib\X11\fonts\TTF
cp \windows\fonts\verdana* \cygwin\usr\X11R6\lib\X11\fonts\TTF
start Cygwin bash
cd /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF
mkfontscale .
mkfontdir .
exit Cygwin bash
start Cygwin bash
run xset -q and note that the font path now includes the TTF directory
run xfontsel and note that when you select regstry/microsoft that verdata
appears under fmly
